Simple Vermont Sugar-Free Apple Sauce Recipe

By Savannah Maroun

A bag with apples in it.

This simple apple sauce is perfect as an after dinner treat or as a side to your favorite cozy supper. Apples are already very sweet so I just use a little bit of honey. Find my recipe that I make every apple season here in Vermont down below and don't be afraid to tweak it to add your own twist.

Ingredients:

  • 5 apples
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

Steps:

  1. Visit your local apple orchard during peak picking.
  2. Peel your apples, and after cutting into chunks, add to a large saucepan with your water, honey, and spices.
  3. Cook for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Let cool slightly, and mash until you have your desired consistency.
  5. Enjoy!
